Scope and Contents
This series (27 files) consists of materials from 1919 to 2007 that provide documentation of student social organizations, fraternities and sororities and includes rosters, funding requests, constitutions, policies, correspondence, photographs, pamphlets and flyers, minutes, blank forms, clippings, booklets, housing proposal and questionnaire, an oversize resolution and a video tape. VHS video tape contains a 15-minute montage of photos, both posed and candid, taken of meetings, events, and the daily life of individual members of the 1988-1989 Rockhurst Organization of Collegiate Women. Social Organizations can be organized with approval around activities from politics to judo as long as the basic requirements are met. Some last only a few semesters, others are long term such as the Black Student Union started in the 1970s and still operating in 2018. The earliest records in this series are from the Sodality Union in 1919, with the bulk of the material from the 1970s to the 2000s.
