Rockhurst Archives - Student Organizations (C.1)

Biographical/Historical

Rockhurst College offered its first college classes in 1918, and in the same year, the first college student organizations were founded. Membership continued in existing organizations, combining high school and college students in the Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Lecture Club and the Athletic Association. By 2000 when the school was renamed Rockhurst University, there were 40 clubs in addition to the athletic programs and in 2018 there are more than 70 organizations to choose from in a variety of areas that include student government, academic, social, political, recreational, religious and other common interests. As early as 1973 and continuing on today, the University requires student organizations be student led, registered every year with a constitution, have a faculty/staff advisor, a President, and a Treasurer.
