Biographical / Historical
Rev. Peter B. Ely served as 12th President of Rockhurst College from 1996 to the end of the 1996-1997 academic year, less than 1 year. Fr. Ely was born in 1938 in the northwest United States, entered the Society of Jesus in 1958 and was ordained in 1969. He got his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Philosophy from Gonzaga University, a Bachelor of Divinity from Regis College, and a Ph.D. in Theology from Fordham University. In 1973, he returned to Gonzaga University as an Assistant Professor of Religious Studies, working his way up to Acting President from July 1983 to January of 1984. In 1982 Fr. Ely became Rector at Gonzaga University, and remained there until he came to Rockhurst in November of 1996. At the end of the 1996-1997 academic year, Fr. Ely resigned his position as President of Rockhurst.
