Biographical / Historical
Fr. Thomas J Savage, S.J. was appointed President of Rockhurst College in 1988, and served in that capacity until
1996. At 40 years old, he was the College's youngest President. Fr. Savage was born in Medford, Massachusetts on Oct. 28, 1947. He entered the novitiate in 1967, and was ordained in 1979. Along the way, he earned a bachelors from Boston College, a Masters in Public planning from Harvard, a Masters in Regional Planning from Berkeley, and a Doctorate in Education from Harvard.

Before coming to Rockhurst, Fr. Savage lectured at Lesley College in Cambridge Ma., Boston College in Chestnut Hill, MA., and The Management Program in Berkeley, CA. He was an Associate at Institutional Strategy Associates in Belmont, MA., the Director of the Cheswick Center in Boston, MA., and Assistant Academic Vice President at Fairfield University in Fairfield CT.

As President, Fr. Savage became immersed in the Kansas City community. Campus improvements under his leadership include a new Jesuit residence hall, the renovation of Van Ackeren Hall, and the construction of Town House Village and the St. Ignatius Science Center.
Fr. Thomas J. Savage, S.J. passed away on May 10, 1999 in Massachusetts.
