When you are using the EBSCO interface to access our databases, you can export citations to be saved in your citation manager such as Zotero and Mendeley. The easiest way is to use the individual citation manager's browser plug-in option (see the Quick Add with Plug-ins box on this page for more details). However, if you opt against plug-ins or are using a public computer, you can still add citations from any EBSCO database to your citation manager library following the steps below:
-
From the detailed record page, click Export on the Tool Menu. The Export Manager panel will appear.
- Select the option, Direct Export in RIS Format and click Save. If you have the preference set in your Zotero Connector to allow automatic file importing, you may get a pop-up confirming the import. Otherwise, note where you save the file on your computer so you can locate it later when you need to import the citation into Zotero or Mendeley.

- Open either the desktop or web version of Zotero or Mendeley to import the RIS file.
- In Zotero web, locate the '+' in the top menu bar of your library and select "Upload File" from the dropdown menu. Locate the RIS file and click the 'Open' button.
- In Zotero desktop, go to the File menu and select "Import..." Locate the RIS file and click the 'Open' button.
- In Mendeley web, locate the blue '+ Add' button on the top left side of your library and select "Import RIS (.ris)" from the dropdown menu. Locate the RIS file and click the 'Open' button.
- In Mendeley desktop, go to the File menu and select "Import..." Then select "RIS - Research Information Systems (*.ris)" from the submenu. Locate the RIS file and click the 'Open' button.
- The metadata for the resource should now be in your citation manager library. Be sure to review the information, confirming that all necessary information imported correctly and make any necessary edits or additions.
