Banned Books Week

Offering information and resources associated with Banned Books Week in the United States

Welcome!

Welcome to the Banned Books Week Libguide!

Banned Books Week 2019 is: September 22th - 28th

Some of you may be wondering:  "why does this page exist? Why would librarians ever want to ban books?"

Good questions - actually, it's quite the contrary!

Banned Books Week, "was launched in 1982 in response to a sudden surge in the number of challenges to books in schools, bookstores and libraries."
1 Libraries and librarians wholly support access to information and your right, dear reader, to interact with disagreeable material in your places of learning.

That means that every fourth week in September you might happen upon a colorful library display, or lists of commonly banned books, or a disgruntled librarian with yellow caution tape, calling attention to censorship in our society and the need to reject it.

Throughout this guide you'll find links to more information and resources about Banned Books Week. Enjoy!
