Tiya Miles completed her B.A. in African American Studies at Hardvard University, then went on to earn an M.A. in Women's Studies from Emory University and a Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Minnesota.
Her career as an academic began at Dartmouth College where she served as the coordinator of Shabazz African American Center while completing her dissertation. She held faculty positions at the University of California Berkely and the University of Michigan before serving in her current role as a Professor of History and Radcliffe Alumnae Professor at Harvard University.
Dr. Mile's research, teaching, writing, and advocacy interests lie in African America studies, Native American studies, American women's histories, public history, public humanities, and environmental humanities. At the time of this writing, she has published eight books and dozens of essays and editorials. Her other projects include six public history and two environmental humanities projects. Dr. Mill's creative and scholarly output have earned her multiple awards
