Faculty: Linking to Library Resources

Creating Persistent Links to Catalog Records

  1. Locate the item you would like to link to within the catalog, and click on the title to open the full catalog record.
  2. Do NOT use the long, symbol-ridden URL that appears in the address bar at the top of the page; it is not a stable URL. Instead, look for the Persistent Link located at the bottom of the page.

Permanent link highlighted within catalog record

  1. Copy the link. You can do this by either
    1. hovering over the hypertext, right-clicking, and select 'Copy link address' or
    2. highlighting the URL and selecting the 'Ctrl' and the 'C'  at the same time (or 'Command' and the 'C' if on a Mac) to copy the text.
Additionally, you can click on the hyperlinked permalink and then copy the URL that appears in the address bar at the top of the page.
  2. The preferred method of linking to the resource is to hyperlink the book citation. Example for the record above:

Angelou, Maya. I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings. Bantam Books, 1993.
